UFC Fighter rankings: Light Heavyweight division

Perhaps the deepest division in the organization with an abundance of talent with a great mixture of both exciting stand-up strikers and guys who methodically breakdown their opponent to get the ‘W’. It appears that Dana White, Joe Silva and company are going to create some really good matchups in ’08 to take advantage of the deep division. Here is how I see the division as of 2/09..

Champ: Quinton Jackson

Faces Forrest Griffin sometime in the early summer, probably at UFC 86 which hopefully will be in the U.S. and in late June a couple of weeks after UFC 85 on June 14th in London. I don’t see Rampage going anywhere anytime soon. He looks unstoppable right now.

The Contenders:

  1. Lyoto Machida
  2. Forrest Griffin
  3. Keith Jardine
  4. Dan Henderson
  5. Chuck Liddell
  6. Shogun
  7. Thiago Silva
  8. Rashad Evans
  9. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
  10. Wanderlei Silva

In the running: Tito Ortiz, Matt Hammill, Houston Alexander, Vitor Belfort (can’t wait to see him return to action), Stephan Bonnar, Jason Lambert, Tim Boetsch

Some fights that are already lined up for the near future:

  • Hammill/Bonnar UFN 13
  • Alexander/James Irvin UFN 13
  • Evans/Thiago Silva UFC 84
  • Machida/Ortiz UFC 84
  • Wanderlei Silva/Keith Jardine UFC 84
  • Shogun/Liddell UFC 85
