Episodes 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
24 returned with a bang in their Season 7 premiere. Surprises, characters returning from the grave others after their role appeared to have disappeared, the usual dramatic sequences and more treachery filled the four hours.
What impressed this critic was the promising storyline (it has potential to be strong throughout the 24 episodes rather than recent ones that die around hour 12), the new characters (namely FBI agent Walker, Emmerson and Ike Duboku) and relative unpredictability so far.
The best feature of the season so far has to be the dynamic of Jack facing a revived Tony Almeida and now working undercover alongside his old friend. That, coupled with another former CTU director in Bill Buchanon and systems analyst extraordinaire Chloe O’Brien (whom I personally find extremely annoying) equals perhaps the best four-man undercover operation that could ever be orchestrated.
So that, ultimately, is very intriguing. I can’t wait to see how the four of them work together going forward, who else they might be able to recruit (could we see agent Aaron Pierce returning?) and the excitement that follows. Essentially the four of them are unearthing the same plot that Henry Taylor (first husband) and Samantha Roth are working on uncovering. Will the two groups realize this and merge together at some point?
The other appealing new addition to this season is Renee Walker. To put it simply, I love her. She is a great character addition to the show. Smart, intense, professional but also risk taking at the same time and very attractive.
The only negatives that I see so far are the dissolvement of CTU for a mock-CTU FBI facility that looks more like an ordinary office building with boring cubicles. Extremely unappealing aesthetically to be quaint. Additionally I would have to say that a female President and thus now their fourth Presidential term is introduced. I really just don’t like how all of a sudden FOX is flying through Presidents for this show and there’s no way this lady would have ever been elected to lead our country.
Other than that, I can’t wait to see episode 5 next Monday. I really like watching these two four man crews that Tony and Jack are at the center of. They feature the best of the best at what they do and that excites me.
