Hardy’s confidence shining through on ‘Primetime’

With the added spotlight shining on the biggest fight of Dan Hardy’s life, it’s Hardy’s unabashed confidence shining through on the UFC’s promotional series ‘Primetime’.

The aforementioned biggest fight of his career is scheduled to go down at UFC 111: St.-Pierre vs. Hardy on Saturday, March 27th at Newark, New Jersey. His opponent — Georges St.-Pierre, the reigning UFC Welterweight Champion — has reeled off six consecutive wins including four title defenses (counting the rematch with Serra where GSP was an interim champion) against some of the best welterweights in the sport.

Obviously the Nottingham native is an overwhelming underdog (+500 in the Vegas sports books currently) but that hasn’t discouraged him at all yet. As he states in the show, Hardy is going to be hungrier than the champion and feels like his advantage on the feet is something that can’t be overlooked.

St.-Pierre, 28, however, is the champion for a reason and that reason isn’t a lack of challengers. In order he’s faced — and dominated — the best welterweight challengers in the world: Jon Fitch (50-44 five round unanimous decision), BJ Penn (4th rd TKO after Penn’s corner threw in towel) and Thiago Alves (50-44 five round unanimous decision).

This isn’t a flukely run of KO’s and an untested ground game. This is complete and utter domination by a fighter many consider to be the most complete MMA fighter in the World.

So while Hardy (23-6) has not backed down in the least in the build up to this fight, he’s going to need a lot more than just an impressive bravado to unseat the current champion.
