Mariners vs. Yankees 6.12.14 Lineups, Pre-game Notes

Late Wednesday night the news broke that the Mariners were putting OF Michael Saunders on the disabled list with inflammation in his right AC joint, that would be the right shoulder for the non-medical professionals out there.

Saunders was hitting well with a .272 average through 52 games, but after a swing he made in the opening game of a four-game series with Tampa Bay last week bothered him, he missed three consecutive starts before it seemingly got worse Tuesday night. Saunders went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts against New York.

So up comes DH Jesus Montero from AAA Tacoma where he was hitting .270/.345/.455/.800 through 59 games in the Pacific Coast League. Montero played 42 games at first base where he committed nine errors. It seems doubtful that he will see any time there with the M’s as a healthy Logan Morrison presents a much better option (as does virtually anybody else for that matter).

Here is the Seattle lineup set to face New York RHP Chase Whitley (1-0, 2.42 ERA) who will be making his sixth start of the year. Seattle is looking to snap a tw0-game losing skid and win the season series versus the Yankees.
