This will be a quick, twitter-like post. Venezuelan 16-year-old free agent Brayan Hernandez was seen taking batting practice with the Mariners prior to their game Thursday against the Orioles.
The Mariners have been known to be on Hernandez all through the scouting process and this is a good sign that a deal with the switch-hitting outfielder is near completion.
On July 2nd. MLBtraderumors.com reported that a deal was imminent between the two sides. In the post, Hernandez is said to be rated as the No. 8 international prospect as “one of the most well-rounded and best athlete’s in this year’s class.”
For what it’s worth, he looked much more comfortable taking batting practice at Safeco Field than either Alex Jackson or Gareth Morgan did in their respective appearances. Not that either of those guys fared poorly, I’m just saying Hernandez got in their and hacked. He didn’t foul back one pitch.
